Mary Oppenheim – Medical Reviewer
Mary Oppenheim is a doctor and medical writer who graduated from University College Cork in 2009. She spent more than a decade working in clinical medicine, gaining experience across neurology, general medicine, oncology and cardiology. She later strengthened her editorial skills through additional training in clinical research and professional writing, allowing her to approach health content from both a medical and a reader-focused perspective.
Mary reviews medical information with close attention to evidence, dosage, precautions, interactions and possible side effects. Her writing experience also includes accessible public-health content, such as explaining how outdoor activity during winter may support physical and mental wellbeing. She aims to answer the questions readers are likely to have while making clear when general information cannot replace individual medical advice.
Ellen Roche Ryan, MPharm, MPSI – Pharmacist
Ellen Roche Ryan is a pharmacist who completed her Master of Pharmacy at University College Cork and became registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland in November 2024. Her work combines day-to-day pharmaceutical care with a strong interest in making medicines information easier to understand and access. She pays particular attention to the practical difficulties that can affect how people obtain, identify and use their medication safely.
Her MPharm research explored the experiences of visually impaired adults using community pharmacy services in Ireland. The study was later published in the International Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and highlighted the importance of accessible medicines information, thoughtful communication and greater independence for patients with visual impairment. The project was also recognised at the 34th Annual PRIMM Scientific Meeting, where its abstract received the Hugh McGavock Bursary for Best Abstract.
Ciara Gavin, MPharm, MPSI – Pharmacist
Ciara Gavin is a registered pharmacist with more than eleven years of experience in hospital-based clinical pharmacy. She holds an MPharm, a certificate and master’s degree in clinical pharmacy, as well as additional training in project management. After years of working directly with patients and multidisciplinary healthcare teams, she moved into medical affairs, where she focuses on hospital medicines, anti-infective treatments and antiviral therapies.
Ciara has also completed specialist training in Medical Affairs in Medicines Development, covering areas such as drug development, clinical trials, regulation, pharmacovigilance and health economics. In July 2026, she added the EDGE Essentials Leadership certification from Harvard Business Impact Enterprise to her professional development. Her clinical background helps her review information on medicines with close attention to evidence, safe use, interactions and the practical questions that matter to patients and healthcare professionals.
Gráinne Feely – Hospital Pharmacist
Gráinne Feely is an experienced hospital pharmacist with a strong background in clinical pharmacy and medication safety. She studied pharmacy at University College Cork and has completed Good Clinical Practice training, giving her a solid understanding of clinical research, study standards and the careful assessment of medicines-related evidence. Her professional work includes reviewing medication use, identifying potential risks and supporting safer treatment decisions.
Gráinne also has a long-standing interest in public health and patient education. Through her volunteer work at the 50s Plus Expo in Dublin, she helped carry out more than 150 blood-pressure checks and spoke with visitors about healthy living and the value of vaccination in older adults. She brings the same practical, approachable style to medicines information, focusing on the questions people are most likely to have about safe use, side effects and ongoing treatment.
